Background and Facts

1. Drug-Free India

Today, the world is fighting the menace of drug addiction. The aftermath has left a big scar on the society as shown in the statistics below:

  • By 13 years of age, 50% of boys will have tried an illicit substance.
  • There are 10 suicides in India every day due to drug or alcohol abuse.
  • Alcohol kills one Indian every 96 minutes.
  • 75% of Indian households have at least one member who is an addict.
  • National Survey on Extent, Patterns and Trends of Drug Abuse (2004) showed that 98% alcohol abusers and 72% of opiate users had NOT sought any kind of treatment in the past.

To tackle these issues, the government of Gujarat and The Art of Living , inspired by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, has been actively working to fight the menace of drugs and substance addiction by spreading awareness and conducting de-addiction drives.

The Art of Living had launched this campaign in presence of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at Hisar in Punjab in 2019 and has received support from a large section of influencers in society like Kapil Sharma, Sanjay Dutt, Varun Sharma and 40+ more personalities from Bollywood.
